Treating Symptoms

  1. Decrease body temperature while waiting for EMS

  • If the person is unresponsive or vomiting do not give the person anything to drink
  • Remove person from over excessive heat – remove person from sun and bring to shade or air conditioned room
  • Help cool person faster by fanning, spraying, and applying cold clothes or ice packs to armpits, neck and groin.
  1. Continue symptom treatment

  • If vomiting turn person on his/her side to keep airway open
  • If having seizures maintain safety and avoidance from injury

Call 911

  • Disorientation
  • Reduced sweating
  • Rapid pulse
  • Seizures
  • Temperature above 103 F
  • Unconsciousness
  • Warm, red, and dry skin
