We have tens of thousands of thoughts each day. The problem is that most of the time we aren’t even aware of what we are thinking and most of these thoughts are repetitive loops of negativity. We go over and over the same issue using the same thought process without resolving anything. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, we need to redirect our thoughts towards more positive solutions. This is important because, ultimately, our thoughts create our reality. We attract what we are thinking and feeling.

Important work by biologist Bruce Lipton and neuroscientist Candace Pert has demonstrated that we store unresolved emotions in our bodies which in turn create disease. As our ancient ancestors believed, we now understand that our mind and body are connected and function together as an integrated system. What we think and feel will have an effect on our bodies and our well-being.

Thoughts are energy and have a distinct vibration. Therefore, the vibration or the thoughts we put out into the universe are exactly what we’re going to get back. We either attract negativity or make a situation worse than it needs to be. The good news is that with some focus and intention, we can control our thoughts and, thus, have a more enjoyable life.

First, we have to become aware of our thoughts. When a difficult situation arises we are often triggered by the emotional pain from our past and then get stuck in a loop of negativity. These thoughts prevent us from hearing our inner guidance that could lead us to a better place.

Negative emotions such as unworthiness, lack of forgiveness or worry attract negativity into our lives or keep us from finding the silver lining. It keeps us “stuck”. Yes, stuff happens, but it’s our response that matters. By looking at a difficult situation as an opportunity rather than an insurmountable problem, we immediately change the vibration. By changing our perspective, we change our situation and how we feel about it. Once we make this shift, we have less resistance and our lives flow more easily.

When something “bad” happens it’s imperative to pay attention to where our thoughts go. Certainly, it’s important to feel our feelings and to acknowledge whatever comes up. However, complaining and blaming keep us in a negative loop. We must acknowledge our feelings, except what is, pay attention to our thoughts, and then look at the situation as an opportunity rather than a problem.

Of course, it’s not easy to change our thoughts or habits. Meditation and mindfulness can help. These are practices that bring a calmness, empty our minds and help us focus on what feels good, rather than focusing on what’s missing. These practices help us look at the glass half full instead of half empty. When we think about our lives half full instead of half empty, we attract the possibilities that help us to create a more fulfilling life. Be positive! It’s worth the effort!
